Kalinganagar
- VISA Steel is implementing a 2.5 million TPA Special and Stainless Steel Plant and 375 MW Power Plant at Kalinganagar Industrial Complex in Orissa.
- The current operations include 225,000 TPA Pig Iron plant (250 Cu.m. Blast Furnace), 400,000 TPA Coke Oven plant (8 Batteries of 11 Ovens each with Stamp Charging facility), 50,000 TPA Ferro Chrome plant (2 x 16.5 MVA Submerged Arc Furnace), 300,000 TPA Sponge Iron plant (2 x 500 TPA DRI Kilns), 75 MW Power plant (3 x 25 MW TG), 0.5 Million TPA Special Steel plant (70 T EAF with VD, LRF & Continuous Caster) and 0.5 million TPA Bar & Wire Rod Mill.
- The company is setting up a 0.5 million TPA Sinter Plant, 300 TPD Lime Plant and 2 x 150 MW Power Plant.
- An additional 0.5 million TPA Special and Stainless Steel Plant with 425,000 TPA Pig Iron Plant, 300,000 TPA Sponge Iron Plant will also be set-up.
Location and logistics
The location at Kalinganagar offers logistic advantages with Talcher coalfields situated 110 km away, Daitari iron ore mines located 30 km away, the Keonjhar and Barbil mines 100-150 km away, the Sukinda Valley having nearly 99% of India's chrome reserves just 35 km away, Paradip port 120 km away and Jakhapura Railway Station 2 km away.
Raw material linkages
The Company plans to integrate backwards to the mining of iron ore, chrome ore and coal. Captive iron ore mining leases in Orissa are presently under the process of allotment by the Government. A chrome ore deposit in Orissa is being developed through Ghotaringa Minerals Limited, a subsidiary of the Company. A share of 54 million tonne steam coal reserve has been jointly allotted at Patrapara Coal Block in Talcher, Orissa.
Process and technology
The prudent selection of technology at VISA Steel has translated into a sustainable business advantage.
- Stamp-charging technology in the Coke Oven Plant allows blending of semi-soft Coking Coal.
- The waste heat recovery power Plant effectively utilises the waste heat gases to generate low-cost power for captive consumption.
- The use of hot metal and Sponge Iron in the EAF lowers raw material costs and reduces specific energy consumption per tonne of steel as compared with scrap.
Golagaon
Chrome Ore Beneficiation Plant (COBP)
Capacity: 100,000 TPA. Located at Golagaon, Orissa, the COBP produces high-grade Chrome Concentrates through the beneficiation of low-grade chrome ore by gravity separation.
Chrome Ore Grinding Plant (COGP)
Capacity: 100,000 TPA. Located at Golagaon, Orissa, the COGP produces chrome ore powder of size below 200 mesh (-75 microns) for onward sale to various chrome chemical Plants across India.
